When you listen to Fantastic Negrito, you are drawn into the story of life after destruction. Each song is the real-life story of an Oakland musician who has experienced the high-life of a million-dollar record deal, the lows of a near-fatal car accident that left him in a coma, and who is now in the midst of a renaissance that has taken him from the streets of Oakland to the stage of the Grammy Awards. Along the way, he won the NPR Tiny Desk competition and played at prestigious festivals such as the Byron Bay Bluesfest in Australia and the Glastonbury Festival in England and it is going to be a great privelege to see him on the Plaine Bellevue, even more so as his show is described as energetic combining “Delta Blues” and James Brown funk.
Fantastic Negrito’s first two albums, The Last Days of Oakland (2017) and Please Don’t Be Dead (2019) won the Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Blues Album, and his highly anticipated third album Have You Lost Your Mind Yet? is to be released this summer.
